Consistency: is a fundamental concept that denotes the quality of maintaining a uniform and reliable standard over time or across different situations in life. It plays a crucial role in various aspects of life, from personal habits and relationships to business practices and decision-making and spiritual terms. Consistency is often seen as a key ingredient for success, as it helps build trust, predictability, and stability in both individual and collective endeavors.
But today, we'll explore the theme of consistency in a spiritual context, focusing on individuals who maintained a daily worshiping practice. We'll examine both those who successfully upheld consistency and those who struggled to do so. We can't discuss them all but atleast some of them.
Why are we into consistency?
From the bible we evidence people who loose consistency in there daily doings, were punished by God Himself. Today we will discus power of consistency in relation to God's servants who weren't able to consistently doing what made them the way they were.
This study or discussion relay on lessons learnt from others failure as we know in learning we either learn from successful ones or from our/others failures. Then today we will discus about Saul and David.
SAUL
He is a first king of Israel and he was chosen by God through Samuel, he was very obedient. So we can say that obedience is what made God choose Saul to become a king of Israel.
In a very long life time Saul maintained what made him be the way he was and that is what is so called consistency, till that time he was right.
But there was a certain time when God gave him an order to smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they had in 1Samuel 15:3 "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass."
And Saul decides to on his own 1Samuel 15:9 "But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly." and that's was what Saul decided to do
But in return God didn't like it completely up to the extent he repent for made Saul a king and decided to put Saul aside. 1Samuel 15:11 "It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night."
And the result of failing being consistent in obedience ends in 1Samuel 15:23 "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." as Saul was rejected by God Himself.
DAVID
For the case of David, we mostly understand his effect in israel as a God's choosen king but shortly the following is a summary of David in his younger age.
David had seven brothers who were born together and his father's name was Jesse, the Bethlehemite and at time of his growth, he was always being asked to herd animals and mostly mentioned were sheep, but in all that tasks he was assigned to, he kept going with a good heart also he didn't keep his God asside. As a result God kept on helping him in different dificults mainly during animal attacks as explained by himself to the king Saul.
Therefore the reason GOD choose David to stand as a king of israel was cause of his hardworking and obedience towards his father and God HIMSELF.
And here comes the lack of consistency in hardworking and obedience shown by David,
There was a certain time while It was now spring, the time when kings go to war. David sent out the whole Israelite army under the command of Joab and his officers. They destroyed the Ammonite army and surrounded the capital city of Rabbah, but David stayed in Jerusalem.
And that opportunity was highly used by the devil to conquer David's loyalty as he ending up laying with his soldier's wife and end up on killing him(Uriah the Hittite)
And you might be asking "what did GOD did after David loose his consistency!?"
After these events, God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David. Nathan used a parable to illustrate David's sin, and when David realized the gravity of his actions, he confessed and repented. In 2 Samuel 12:13, Nathan responds to David's confession by saying, "The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die." But consequences were not taken off.
GOD did this 2Samuel 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
