In the bible there are different ways that Lord use to deliver the best part of our lives by using individuals mentioned in the bible anx as so far many sservants were mentioned in the bible, some were righteous and some weren't, but doesn't mean that those who were righteous didn't commit sins, but they acknowledge their wrongdoing and seek repentance.
And today we will be speaking more about Samuel and little about Saul and David but it is mainly about Samuel.
Let's start by knowing his family and why so called Samuel;
Samuel is a prominent figure in the Bible. He was the son of Hannah and Elkanah. Hannah was initially barren and that made her felow wife peninnah moke her and that made Hannah crying but then Hannah prayed for a child, promising to dedicate him to the service of God.
Samuel was born as a result of this prayer as we see in 1Samuel 1:20 "Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
And that is what Samuel means "Because I have asked him of the LORD."
Samuel grew up to become a prophet, judge, and a significant figure in the history of Israel as promised by Hannah that he will become a God's servant, and was raised by the priest Eli. He anointed Saul as the first king of Israel and later anointed David as king. Samuel played a key role in transitioning Israel from a loose confederation of tribes to a united monarchy.
"So why are we discusing about Samuel?" I hope this is what is in our minds for the time being. The following are what made our discussion
As a judge of Israel, Samuel played a great role in several key aspects of the nation's governance and spiritual life in Israel:
1. Spiritual Leadership and prophecy: Samuel was a prophet and served as a spiritual leader for the people of Israel. He communicated God's messages to the people and provided guidance on religious matters. Here shows us the role of a spiritual reader what should be done so as to align with God's will and His commandments.
In 1Samuel 9:9 ("Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.") We see that people doesn't undermine God's servants and sometimes become there way to maka a step from a difficult situation and made it sorted.
2. Judging Disputes: Israel at first it was ruled by God Himself and Samuel as a Image of God since everything that God needed to be done was given to Samuel to reach Israelites, that made Samuel traveled throughout Israel to hear and resolve disputes among the people, acting as a judge in a manner similar to other judges in the Bible. He sought to administer justice and guide the nation in accordance with God's will.
1Samuel 7:15-17
"And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places. And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD."
3.Calling for Repentance: As it is explained in the bible that we must acknowledge our sins and change as stated in Matthew 4:17: "From that time on, Jesus began to preach, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." Samuel fulfil this task as he called the people to repentance and adherence to God's laws. He urged them to turn away from idolatry and unfaithfulness and to return to the worship of God. 1Samuel 7:3-6
1 Samuel 7:3-6
[3]And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
[4]Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
[5]And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
[6]And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
4. Anointing; At the request of the people, Samuel anointed Saul as the first king of Israel. This marked a significant shift in the governance of Israel from a loose confederation of tribes to a centralized monarchy. After Saul's disobedience to God's commands, Samuel was instructed to anoint David as the future king of Israel while Saul was still on the throne. This set the stage for David's eventual reign. "Nothing promised lasts where there is disobedience"
