But letter on, Gilead faced a dire threat from the Ammonites. Desperate, the elders of Gilead turned to Jephthah, begging him and promising him leadership if he would deliver them from their enemies. Although Jephthah was abondoned but he agreed to fight by God's help and made a vow to God so , promising to sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house upon his return if he was victorious.
Jephthah led his warriors into battle, defeating the Ammonites. But as he returned home in triumph, his daughter, his only beloved child, the one to confort him in difficulties, came out to greet him with timbrels and dancing. Devastated by his vow, he tore his clothes, grieving the impending sacrifice of his only beloved daughter.
Despite his grief, Jephthah didn't go against his vow. His daughter, understanding her father's commitment, asked for two months to mourn her virginity in the mountains with her friends. Afterward, she returned, and Jephthah sacrificed her as he had vowed so as to fulfill his vow to God.
Lessons learnt;
1: Hard working and never give up:
History of Jephthah tought us to be strong and and working hard in what we want to fight for, despite of hardships, difficulties and different hustlings we should keep our chins up, bow down worshiping God and find a better solution for our issues. Jephthah use his time training and become a better man in combat and leading, till he became known and helpful tool used by God to save Gilead.
Judges 11:11
[11]Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.
2: Keep your vow:
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 "When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it."
That is a directly word from God explaining how strictly He is, for the one who makes a vow to Him should not take much time to fulfill it as we have being tought by Jephtah although it was a difficult vow but he fullfilled it so as to pay his debt to God.
Learn three things regarding vows
3. Depend on God:
This is mostly know and it means placing your trust, faith, and reliance on a higher power, recognizing that God will provide guidance, strength, and support in your life's journey. It involves surrendering your worries and challenges to God and seeking His wisdom and assistance in all aspects of your life, as it was seen in judges. Judges 11:11 "Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh."
